Substrate Preparation

Mask off window sills and add-on parts. Carefully cover glass, ceramics, clinker, natural stone, painted, glazed and anodised surfaces. Pre-plaster window reveals, handle pockets and break-outs.

All substrates must be load-bearing, even (DIN 18202), clean and free from adhesion-reducing residues. Pre-wet in case of high temperatures, wind and absorbent substrates.

The substrate should be matt damp.

Provide smooth, non-absorbent and highly absorbent substrates with cementitious spray coat of category CS IV according to DIN EN 998-1 or plaster mortar group P III according to DIN 18550-1.

Always check and prepare the render substrate and apply the render in accordance with VOB/C-ATV-DIN 18350 and DIN 18550-1 or DIN 18550-2.

Preparation of Material

Mix 30 kg material (one bag) in approx. 8.3 l water.
Mix with standard plastering machines, electric mixers or compulsory mixers.

Method of Application

Create a render layer:
Apply Capatect GUP SLP 201 in the desired render thickness by machine or manually with a trowel and stainless steel trowel and level with a cartridge.
Roughen sintered layers and unevenness with a grid scraper or remove by scrapering. Depending on the weather conditions, the surfaces can be raked after 24 hours at the earliest. For rabbited surfaces, apply an adhesion primer that matches the decorative render. For non-rabbed surfaces, it is not absolutely necessary to apply an adhesive primer between the base coat and the decorative render.

In case of two-layer application, roughen the first plaster layer well.

Plaster surfaces in contact with the ground must be protected against the penetration of water and ground moisture by suitable measures.

When applying a single coat of plaster, apply the desired thickness of plaster, remove with a straight edge and rub off with a sponge disk after the material has set. Only use materials suitable for the plinth area as finishing renders and/or coatings.

Apply vapour retarding coatings only on completely dry render, at the earliest after reaching final strength, i.e. usually after 28 days.

After completion of the plinth plastering work, starting from the area in contact with the ground to at least 5 cm above ground level, apply moisture protection. The additional moisture protection is to be carried out e.g. with Capatect Sockelflex Carbon.

Render reinforcement or use of additional mesh layer:
1. partial surface reinforcement on the substrate.

In cases where reinforcement of the Render system is not to be applied over an entire façade surface, but only in small partial areas, e.g. roller shutter boxes, window corners, ceiling edges, mixed masonry and the like, partial surface reinforcement of e.g. Capatect Klebe- und Armierungsmasse 186M or Capatect Klebe- und Armierungsmasse 170 with Capatect Gewebe 650 on the substrate is recommended.

For render substrates with increased risk of cracking, e.g. window and door corner areas, embed additional reinforcement with Capatect Gewebe 666 in the upper third of the base coat.

2. full-surface mesh embedding in an additional base coat layer

Alternatively, for partial surface reinforcement, a full-surface layer of reinforced base coat made of e.g. Capatect Klebe- und Armierungsmasse 170 with fabric embedding of Capatect Gewebe 650 is to be applied.

3. special requirements require the use of an additional reinforced base coat layer

a) Special requirements for the render layer:
For highly exposed layers, light reference values below HBW 30 or finishing renders with grain size < 2 mm, a base coat layer e.g. Capatect Klebe- und Armierungsmasse 170 with fabric embedding of Capatect Gewebe 650 is required.

Apply the embedded fabric with an overlap of at least 10 cm in the joint area. In corner areas of building openings additionally embed Capatect Diagonal mesh 651.

b) Original Meldorfer® flat facing bricks:
If surfaces are to be laid with Original Meldorfer® flat facing bricks, a full-surface base coat layer with reinforcement fabric is applied on top of the base render layer. It is recommended to use a bonding agent, e.g. CapaGrund Universal, between the render layer and the subsequent covering. Capatect Meldorfer Ansatzmörtel 080 is used as base mortar.

Application of corner beads:
Insert corner bead adapted to layer thickness, e.g. "Capatect Gewebe Eckschiene Y-Form 658" in "Capatect GUP SLP 201". For further information, please refer to the valid special information on accessories.

Consumption

approx. 1.2 kg/m2 per mm layer thickness.
Determine exact material requirements by trial coating on the object.

Application Conditions

During The application and in the drying phase, the ambient and substrate temperatures must not be below +5 °C and above +30 °C.

Do not apply in direct sunlight, strong wind, fog or high humidity. In this context, we refer to the leaflet "Verputzen, Wärmedämmen, Spachteln, Beschichten bei hohen und tiefen Temperaturen" (Rendering, Thermal Insulation, Filling, Coating at High and Low Temperatures) from the Bundesverband Ausbau und Fassade (Federal Association for Finishing and Facades).
The dependencies of temperature, layer thickness and relative humidity must be taken into account.

Drying/Drying Time

approx. 1 day/mm layer thickness
Depending on temperature, layer thickness and relative humidity.

Tool Cleaning

Immediately after use with water.
