    Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

    Substrate Preparation

Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars) / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 1.5 N/mm2:
Solid plasters with normal absorbency require no preliminary treatment. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent plasters with OptiGrund or CapaSol.

Gypsum Mortar and Ready-Mixed Gypsum Plasters of Mortar Group/Class PIV / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 13279: 2 N/mm2:
Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund. Sand/grind off sintered skin, remove dust and apply one priming coat of Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

    Gypsum Wallboards:
Prime absorbent boards with OptiGrund or Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Prime highly compact, smooth boards with Caparol-Haftgrund to improve bonding.

Gypsum Plasterboards (Sandwich-Type Plaster Boards / Am.: Drywalls):
Sand/grind off any filling (mortar) burrs. Soft gypsum areas (repair patches) must be primed and strengthened with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB. Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund, OptiGrund or CapaSol. Boards containing water-soluble, discolouring substances that leave marks must be primed with Caparol AquaSperrgrund. In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 12.

    Concrete:
Remove all releasing agent (formwork oil residues) and chalking or sanding substances.

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) / Cellular Concrete:
Prime with a 1 : 3 mixture of Capaplex and tap (potable) water.

Facing Brickwork and Fair-Faced Sand-Lime Brick Masonry:
    No preliminary treatment required.

    Sound/Stable Existing Coatings:
Treat matt, slightly absorbent coatings without a preliminary preparation. Roughen/sand glossy surfaces and enamel coatings. Apply one priming coat of Caparol-Haftgrund.

    Unstable Existing Coatings:
Remove unstable coatings of enamel and emulsion/dispersion paint or synthetic (organic) plaster. Prime slightly absorbent, smooth surfaces with Caparol-Haftgrund. Prime highly porous, sanding or absorbent substrates with OptiGrund or CapaSol. Remove unstable coats of mineral paint by mechanical means and remove all dust. Prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Coats of Glue-Bound Distemper (Limewater Colour/Paint):
Wash off the existing distemper very thoroughly, allow to fully dry and prime with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

Unpainted Woodchip/Ingrain, Relief or Embossed Wallpapers (made of Paper):
    Coat without any preliminary treatment.

    Non-Adherent Wallpapers:
Remove completely and wash off all residues of wallpaper paste/glue and waste paper. Prime the substrate with Caparol-Tiefgrund TB.

    Mildewed Surfaces:
Remove fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould) by wet cleaning, then use Capatox or FungiGrund and allow to dry thoroughly. Prime according to the type and condition of the substrate. Apply a finishing coat of Indeko-W, Malerit-W or Fungitex-W on heavily mould infested surfaces, in compliance with legal/local and official regulations (follow e.g. Ordinance on Biological Agents and Ordinance on Hazardous Substances).

Surfaces Stained by Nicotine, Water, Soot or Fat/Grease:
Remove nicotine, soot or fat/grease stains by washing with tap water adding a fat-dissolving household detergent, then allow the substrate to dry thoroughly. Clean dried-up water stains by dry brushing-off. Apply an insulating coat of Caparol AquaSperrgrund. Apply one finishing coat of Aqua-inn Nº 1 on highly soiled surfaces.

    Wood and Derived Timber Products:
Coat with waterborne, ecologically compatible Capacryl acrylic enamels or Capacryl PU enamels.Small Defects:
After having completed the necessary preparations, repair small defects with Caparol-Akkordspachtel in accordance with our application instructions, and if necessary, prime subsequently.

    Method of Application

Applicable with paint brush, paint roller or airless spray equipment.

    Airless application:
Dilute the standard product 3 - 5 % with tap (potable) water and sieve well.
    Spray angle: 40°
    Nozzle size: 0.019" to 0.021"
Optimal spray pressure: 160 to 170 bar.
Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

    Surface Coating System

One liberally and evenly applied coat of CapaFiXX, diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water. High-contrast surfaces may require a previously applied first coat of CapaFiXX, diluted to a max. of 10 % with tap water. Prime unevenly absorbent substrates with Caparol-Haftgrund.

    Consumption

Approx. 150 - 160 ml/m2 per coat on smooth substrates. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

    Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

    Drying/Drying Time

At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after 4 - 6 hours. Completely dry (cured) and ready for stress after approx. 3 days. Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time.

    Note

To avoid lapping, the product should be applied wet-on-wet and without interruption.
For surfaces subjected to adverse lighting conditions (sided/grazing light) it is advisable to use our product CapaSilan.
Due to the use of Caparol-Tiefgrund TB in interiors, a typical solvent odour is released, hence proper ventilation must be provided during application and drying.
    Use non-aromatic, low-odour AmphiSilan-Putzfestiger in sensitive areas.
Touching up surfaces is depending on many parameters and may be visible after drying.
In Germany: See BFS Data Sheet No. 25.
