Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be solid, load-bearing, free of dirt, separating substances, dry and absorbent and frost-free. Observe VOB, Part C, DIN 18363, Para. 3.

Substrate Preparation

The following information is exemplary and not exhaustive. The coating is applied after any necessary substrate preparation. It is recommended that a test surface is created to determine the compatibility of the coating.

Protective measures
Carefully cover glass, ceramics, clinker, natural stone, painted, glazed, anodised surfaces and surfaces to be protected. Remove splashes immediately with water.

Cleaning soiled substrates with / without load-bearing layers:
Clean soiled areas, remove less stable layers using a suitable method. Observe legal requirements. Observe sufficient drying times when treating with water.
Possible methods (not exhaustive):
- Dry cleaning: Sweeping, brushing.
- Pressurised water blasting: max. temperature 60° C, max. pressure 60 bar.
- Damp sandblasting: only possible for plasters PII and PIII.
- Mechanical cleaning: stripping, sanding, scraping, localised removal...

Waiting time for new lime plasters (PI (HL), lime-cement plasters (PII), cement plasters (PIII) according to DIN 18550 or plasters from CSII according to DIN EN 998-1 (compressive strength min. 1.5 N/mm2):
Base coats and intermediate coats must be dry before the application of façade paints and the render must be sufficiently hardened.
The waiting time for reworking depends, among other things, on weather conditions and the layer thickness.
Dark colours may require special measures (e.g. longer drying times for the finishing render, priming with CapaGrund Universal, scaffolding tarpaulins for protection, etc.).

  • Guide value for waiting time at 20° C and 65 % relative humidity: at least 1 day per mm layer thickness, but at least 7 days

Waiting time for new paste-like plasters based on dispersion, silicone resin and silicate:
Recoat after complete drying, after 2-3 days at the earliest.

Fungal or algae-infested surfaces:
Clean surfaces with fungal or algae infestation by wet blasting in compliance with legal regulations. After drying, wash through with Capatox or FungiGrund. Coat with Sylitol® NQG®-W.

Plaster / concrete with sintered layer, plaster repairs:
Clean, remove less resistant layers.
Coat with Histolith® Fluat and rinse.

Weathered mineral plasters:
Clean, remove less resistant layers.
Prime with Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 to 1:1 in water depending on the absorbency of the substrate.
On heavily repaired, slightly cracked mineral surfaces, apply 1 to 2 intermediate coats of Histolith® KontaktQuarz, on smooth surfaces with a brush, on rough surfaces with a roller.

Old, stable, matt dispersion, silicone resin and dispersion silicate coatings:
Clean, remove less resistant layers.
To even out uneven surface structures: apply a primer coat of Histolith® Mineralin diluted with approx. 5 % Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ.

Salt efflorescence, rising damp:
Rising damp destroys coatings at an early stage. When coating surfaces with salt efflorescence and rising damp, no guarantee can be given for the permanent adhesion of the coating or the prevention of salt efflorescence. More permanent success can be achieved by applying a horizontal seal and/or using a restoration plaster system.
Please refer to the Histolith® product programme.
The creation of dry or evaporation zones by filling in a layer of filter gravel between the base and the soil is particularly beneficial in older buildings.

Concrete:
Remove any release agent residues.
Requirements according to EN 1504-2: For "Surface protection systems for concrete", please refer to the Disbon "Surface protection coatings" range.

Natural stone (solid, dry, free of efflorescence):
Clean, remove less solid layers. Repair damaged mortar joints. Make stone repairs with stone replacement materials. Prime weathered stone surfaces with Dupa Putzfestiger before painting.
Create a test area and check the coating compatibility.
Please note: In the case of natural stone with water-soluble ingredients, these can bloom on the painted surface and cause stains.

Exposed sand-lime brickwork:
Only frost-resistant facing bricks that do not contain any floating and discolouring foreign inclusions such as sand and clay lumps etc. are suitable for painting. The pointing must be free of cracks and must not contain any adhesion-reducing sealants or similar.
Clean and remove any layers with poor adhesion. Repair damaged mortar joints. Prime with Sylitol® RapidGrund 111.
Observe BFS data sheet no. 2.

Brick masonry:
Only masonry made of absorbent bricks is suitable. Hard-fired bricks and clinker bricks are not suitable. Create a test area and check the compatibility of the coating. Clean the surface thoroughly. Repair damaged mortar joints. Apply a primer coat with Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ, diluted 2:1 to 1:1 in water depending on the absorbency of the substrate.
For bricks with water-soluble, discolouring ingredients, apply a primer coat with Caparol Aqua-Sperrgrund.

Gypsum plasters according to DIN EN 13279-1 / compressive strength min. 1 N/mm2:
Strengthen soft gypsum plasters with Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ. Sand and remove dust from gypsum plasters with sintered skin, prime with Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ.

Plasterboard:
Grind off filler burrs. Strengthen soft gypsum filler areas and gypsum boards with Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ. For boards with water-soluble, discolouring ingredients, apply a primer coat with Caparol Aqua-Sperrgrund (observe BFS data sheet no. 12).

Distemper coatings:
Wash off with primer. Apply a primer coat with Dupa-Putzfestiger.

Preparation of Material

Stir the contents of the container thoroughly with a slow-running agitator.
Dilutable up to max. 5 % with Histolith® Sol-Silikat-Fixativ.

Method of Application

Brushing, rolling or spray application with powerful airless piston devices.

Spray application:
Spray angle: 50°
Nozzle: 0.027-0.031"
Spray pressure: 150-180 bar
Stir and sieve the paint well during airless spraying. Due to quartz-containing
components, increased wear of wearing parts is to be expected.

For exterior or interior: all Histolith® facade paints or interior paints can be used.

Consumption

  • approx. 250-300 g/m2 per coat on a smooth substrate
These consumption figures are approximate values.
Deviations depending on the object or processing conditions must be taken into account.

Application Conditions

During The application and in the drying phase, the ambient and substrate temperatures must not be below +8 °C and above +30 °C.

Do not apply in direct sunlight, strong wind, fog or high humidity. In this context, we refer to the leaflet "Verputzen, Wärmedämmen, Spachteln, Beschichten bei hohen und tiefen Temperaturen" (Rendering, Thermal Insulation, Filling, Coating at High and Low Temperatures) from the Bundesverband Ausbau und Fassade (Federal Association for Finishing and Facades).

In unfavourable weather conditions, suitable measures must be taken to protect the treated façade surfaces.

Drying/Drying Time

The waiting time for recoating depends, among other things, on the weather conditions and the layer thickness. The specifications refer to 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity and serve as a guide.

  • Surface dry and recoatable at 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity after approx. 12 h
  • Rainproof after approx. 24 h

Tool Cleaning

Rinse with water immediately after use in accordance with legal requirements.
