Substrate Preparation

Masonry, concrete or firmly adhering coatings must be clean, dry and load-bearing. Impurities and separating substances (e.g. formwork oil) as well as protruding mortar burrs must be removed. Damaged, flaking old coats of paint and textured renders must be removed as far as possible. Hollow areas of render must be removed and rendered flush with the surface. Highly absorbent, sanding or chalking surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned to solid substance and primed with "Sylitol® RapidGrund 111".

Tape off window sills and add-on parts. Carefully cover glass, ceramics, clinker, natural stone, painted, glazed and eloxated surfaces.

Preparation of Material

25 kg material (one bag) in approx. 6.0 - 6.5 l water.
Mix with electric mixer or compulsory mixer.
Work through again after approx. 2 minutes.
Do not mix more material than can be used within 2 hours.

Consumption

Adhesion: approx. 4.5 - 8 kg/m2
Base coat: 1.4 kg/m2 and mm layer thickness.
These consumption figures are approximate values. Deviations depending on the object or processing must be taken into account.

Application Conditions

During application and in the drying phase, the ambient and substrate temperatures must not drop below +5 °C and must not exceed +30 °C. Do not apply in direct sunlight, wind, fog or high humidity. In this context, we refer to the leaflet "Verputzen, Wärmedämmen, Spachteln, Beschichten bei hohen und tiefen Temperaturen" (Rendering, thermal insulation, filling, coating at high and low temperatures) from the "Bundesverband Ausbau und Fassade" (Federal Association for Finishing and Facades).

Drying/Drying Time

approx. 3 - 5 days
Depending on temperature, layer thickness and relative humidity.

Adhesive: Depending on weather conditions, can be recoated after 24 h at the earliest. Anchoring and overworking of the insulation boards only afterwards.

Base coat: Depending on weather conditions, wait 1 day per mm layer thickness before reworking the base coat.

Tool Cleaning

Immediately after use with water.

Application

Adhering the insulation boards:
Apply the adhesive mortar to the back of the board using the bead-dot method (apply a bead around the edge of the board > 5 cm and 3-6 adhesive dots in the centre of the board). The adhesive application quantity and the web height must be varied according to the substrate tolerances so that ≥ 60 % adhesive contact area is ensured. When applying the adhesive mortar to the substrate, the insulation boards are placed against the substrate after the adhesive has been applied and struck.


Full-surface bonding technique (only applicable with level substrate and suitable insulation boards):
Spray the adhesive mortar onto the substrate by machine. Immediately before applying the insulation boards, spread the adhesive mortar with a notched trowel (the width and depth of the teeth depends on the condition of the substrate). Immediately press the insulation boards into the fresh bed of adhesive mortar, float them in and press them down. To avoid skin build-up, only apply as much adhesive as can be covered immediately. Press the insulation boards together from the bottom to the top and press on well. Do not apply adhesive to the joints of the boards. Ensure that the boards are laid flush and plumb.

Base coat: 
Sand off any offsets at the polystyrene board joints and remove attached sanding dust.

With uncoated mineral wool insulation boards, the base coat must be worked into the surface of the insulation board (press-filling). After applying the corner protection at window reveals and edges, as well as the diagonal base coat at the corners of façade openings, apply the base coat to the insulation boards in each case in the width of the mesh and press in the "Capatect Gewebe 650" with an overlap of at least 10 cm. Then apply a wet-on-wet overlay to ensure full coverage of the fabric. The total layer thickness must be at least 4 mm. The max. layer thickness is 8 mm.


For base coat layer thicknesses up to 4 mm, work the mesh embedding into the centre of the base coat and for base coat layer thicknesses over 4 mm, work it into the outer half of the base coat.

For higher demands on the levelness of the base coat, e.g. resulting from the edge lengths of the ceramic cladding, it is recommended to apply a second full-surface layer of the base coat.

Anchoring:
When anchoring through the base coat mesh, the base coat is to be applied in two layers. The base coat mesh is worked into the first layer. Then the anchors are placed and the second layer is applied.

If necessary, cover the scaffold with tarpaulins to protect it from rain during the drying phase. In Germany: Observe DIN 18550-1 and DIN 18350, VOB, Part C for application and execution. For container or silo goods, please also observe the enclosed instructions.

Special Risks (Hazard Note) / Safety Advice (Status as at Date of Publication)

Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye damage. May cause respiratory irritation. If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Do not breathe dusts or mists. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Wear protective gloves/ eye protection. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Immediately call a POISON CENTER/ doctor. Store locked up. Contains: Cement, portland, chemicals, calcium dihydroxide. Aqueous cement suspensions have an alkaline effect.

Additional advice: Wear long trousers. Avoid prolonged skin contact with the render. Immediately clean affected skin thoroughly with water. The longer fresh render remains on your skin, the greater the risk of serious skin damage. It is essential to follow the manufacturer's health and safety instructions during the application phase.

Disposal

Only empty bags (without trickling) for recycling. Dispose of hardened material residues as mixed construction and demolition waste.

EU limit value for the VOC content

VOC content according to RL 2004/42/EG < 1 g/l.
