  • cleanable surface
  • fast-drying and quickly rain resistant
  • reversible
  • resistant to alkaline substances

Material Base / Vehicle

Methacrylic resin, solvent-based

mat - silk mat

Storage

Cool, dry and frost-protected
Originally closed container 36 months storage-stable.
At lower temperature please store the material at 20 °C prior to processing.

Density

1.2 kg/l (depending on colour shade)

Flash point

43 °C

Solids content

61 - 66 %  (DIN EN ISO 3233-2)(depending on colour shade)

Temperature resistance

Dry: up to 60 °C
Above 55 °C the coating starts to soften (thermoplastic), at lower temperatures the coating hardens again. The resistance against mechanical stess declines above 55°C with raising temperatures.

Chemical resistance

Good resistance against mineral oils, grease, fat, wax, cleaning agents and salt solutions.

Suitable Substrates

Elements of:

  • coil coating sheets
  • galvanized steel
  • zinc sheets
  • aluminium sheets (not anodised)
  • copper sheets
  • PVC
  • concrete and cement

Because of the fast surface drying of DisboCOR 493 SpeedColor, the substrate must be free of pores and voids. Otherwise smalls bubbles can arise on concrete and cementous surfaces.

Substrate Preparation

The surface has to be dry and free of fat, oil, dirt, dust and separative acting materials.

  • Coil coating / old coatings

Compatible old coatings can be overcoated after suitable surface preparation and adequate adhesion and compatibility with DisboCOR 493 SpeedColor. When in doubt, a coating test area is recommended.

Good adhering coatings must be cleaned (ISO 8504) and roughened, chalking residues must be removed completely.

Corroded spots are to be grit blasted PSa 2 ½ or cleaned very thouroghly by hand or power tool to PSt 3 or PMa (DIN EN ISO 8501-2) and touched up with a suitable prime coat (e. g. DisboCOR 872 2K-EP Primer ST).

Bad adhearing coatings are to be removed completely by grit blasting Sa 2 ½, hand or power tool cleaning St 3 (both DIN EN ISO 8501-1) or water jetting Wa 2 ½ (ISO 8501-4), flash rust grade M and prime coated with an appropriate prime coat.

  • Galvanized steel and zinc sheets:

Remove white rust and other contamination by grinding (abrasive paper or pad), ammonia-water solution containing wetting agent or sweep blasting (DIN EN ISO 12944-4). Corroded spots have to be cleaned very thourogh.y by hand or power tool to PSt 3 (DIN EN ISO 8501-1) and touched up with suitable prime coat (e. g. DisboCOR 872 2K-EP Primer ST).

  • Aluminium, copper and PVC:

Remove all native and foreign impurities. Surface must be sweep blasted (DIN EN ISO 12944-4).

Preparation of Material

Stir up well, if required thinner DisboADD 499 can be added.

Method of Application

  • Brush
  • Roller (low-pile roller)
  • Airless spray application (spray nozzle pressure 180 - 220 bar, nozzle size 0.25 mm respectively 0.01 inch); use piston or capable membrane pump.

Thinner allowance:
For airless spray application, up to 10 % DisboADD 499 can be added, depending on the dry film thickness and application conditions.

Layer Thickness

Dry film thickness 65 µm, equals 100 µm wet film thickness

1)Damaged areas in existing coating must be prepared in compliance with the particular surface and touched up with suitable prime coat (e. g. DisboCOR 872 2K-EP Primer ST).
2)For dark and contrasted colourd substrates and colours with worse hiding power (e. g. red, yellow, orange) an additional prime or intermediat coat might be required.
Hint: On powder coated, coil coated or other critical substrates a test area shall be prepared in advance and adhesion shall be tested.

Do not use DisboCOR 493 SpeedColor on surfaces that are in continuous contact with softener containing plastics (e. g. weels of cars or bikes). Do not apply on continuously wet surfaces or areas with stagnant water.

Horizontal uncoated areas of balustrades must be free of cavities and must have a sufficient inclination. Those areas shall be prime coated with DisboPOX 420 E.MI PLUS and be sanded/sprinkled with DisboADD 942. Afterwards intermediate and top coat shall be applied.

Consumption

  • Metall surfaces:

Theoretical: 0.120 kg/m2
Practical: approx. 0.135 - 0.155 kg/m2 (incl. loss)

  • Mineral surfaces:

Theoretical: 0.140 kg/m2
Practical: approx. 0.155 - 0.180 kg/m2 (incl. loss)

Consumptions are indicative values depending on surface conditions and application method. Exact values can be determined by testing areas.

Do not apply more than 0.240 kg/m2 per coat!

Application Conditions

Do not apply below 5 °C an above 80 % rel. humidity. Substrate temperature shall be continuously 3 K above the dew point, optimal temperature range is at 10 - 25 °C. The product shall not be applied at direct sun radiation, strong wind, rain, heated surfaces etc. VOB Part C (DIN 18363 Chapter 3.1.10) shall be considered.

Waiting Time

1 day between prime and top coat and between 2 top coats; at temperatures between 5 °C and 10 °C up to 2 days.
After longer time periods additional coating can be applied after suitable surface preparation.

Drying/Drying Time

At 20 °C and 65 % rel. humidity:

  • drying grade 1 (dust dry): 1 hour
  • rain resistant: 2 hours
  • recoatable: 12 hours

Lower temperatures, higher humidity and higer thicknesses will decelerate the drying time.

Tool Cleaning

Equipment and tools shall be cleaned wit DisboADD 499.
